Robot welding for the perfect connection

Do you need a partner for machining work, such as drilling, boring, CNC turning or large milling work? Or do you want your workpiece welded? At Machinefabriek Boessenkool you can go for various welding processes, such as MIG welding, MAG welding, orbital welding, spot welding of BMBE welding. Many welding activities are carried out with us using a robot. Robot welding ensures consistently high quality.

What is welding?

Welding is the joining of materials by means of pressure and/or heat. In this process, the material at the place of joining is brought into a liquid or soft state, while material with approximately the same composition is added. This creates continuity between the parts that are joined, because both the material of the workpiece and the material that is added are melted. Welded joints are generally very strong and very easy and quick to realise. There are various welding processes, each with their own specific characteristics and area of application.

What is robotic welding?

Robot welding is a fully automated welding process in which the welding torch is controlled by a welding robot. The human factor is largely eliminated in robot welding. The advantage of robot welding is that the quality of the welding is higher and the welding always meets the same tolerances and there is a very high degree of repeatability. In addition, the production time is significantly reduced in robot welding, which reduces costs.

Robot welding on different materials

Robot welding can be applied to many different workpieces and materials. For example, at Machinefabriek we can weld steel, stainless steel and aluminium very well. Robot welding is also very suitable for welding complex constructions with large welding work. It is definitely an advantage that the welding work can be done at high speed with a welding robot and that a constant quality can be guaranteed.

Applications of welding robots

Welding robots are used in various welding processes, but most often in arc welding and spot welding. The majority, around 80%, of welding robots use MIG/MAG welding, because this welding method does not require pretreatment, can be used in all positions, is easy to automate, is relatively cheap, has a reasonably high deposition rate and does not require post-treatment.

Advantages of robotic welding

The process of robotic welding has several advantages, but also several disadvantages compared to other welding processes.

Advantages of robotic welding

  • Constant high quality and repeatability
  • Suitable for small or large series
  • High welding speeds achievable
  • Saving on human labor
  • No risk to welders, such as welding fumes, welding eyes or burns

CERTIFICATIONS AND STAMPING AUTHORIZATION

Certificates and inspections always guarantee the best quality of every operation by Machinefabriek Boessenkool. Machinefabriek Boessenkool is authorized for overstamping / stamping for various inspection bodies, including RINA, Lloyds, ABS, DNV, and others.

Welding with robots is becoming increasingly attractive

Welding with robots is becoming increasingly attractive. Not only have welding robots become cheaper, they are also cheaper than human welders in the long term. However, there are always situations in which humans are preferred over robots. For example, in the case of stand-alone welding tasks that are only performed once. Or in the case of specific actions in which certain well-considered choices have to be made during the welding process. It is then too expensive to program a welding robot for one or a specific task. Ideally, robots and humans perform different welding tasks separately and complement each other where necessary.

Robot welding in the future

Robot welding will gain more and more ground. Partly due to the many possibilities of this technology, but also due to the many advantages. Robots are becoming cheaper, but also better. The quality of the welding is high, consistent and is constantly improving. In addition, awareness of the health risks of welding is growing and this is increasingly being taken into account in, for example, air filtering.
