Tukkervlet’s project Pius X College and Boessenkool for a good cause!

23-11-2020

On Wednesday, November 18 the official kick-off was given for project “Tukkervlet” – fourth-year students from Pius X College in Almelo are building a steel boat in the Technical Hall of the school. Machinefabriek Boessenkool has committed itself as a sponsor to this unique school project. The first scale models can be realized so that afterwards the real work can be started: a steel boat 6 meters long and almost 2 meters wide. Various techniques and machines are used for this. the project fits perfectly within the various optional courses of PIE (Production, Installation & Energy) connecting materials, arc welding and construction works.

About Pius X
Within the Pius X College, besides the PIE students, students from other profiles are also working on the realization of this special project. For example, the students of the Bouwen Wonen & Interieur profile will be responsible for the wood and paintwork. Students of the Media Design & ICT profile ensure appropriate lettering. Lecturer and project leader Jos van Helden speaks of “an exemplary project in which everything comes together nicely”. But he also indicates that it is “a tough and challenging assignment where students have to pull out all the stops – or rather, out of the boat.”

The good cause: KWF Nederland
Hopefully the special project has two nice closings. After the ‘Tukkervlet’ has been realized, Pius X students of the Economy & Business profile will organize the promotion and an auction. The proceeds of the auction will go entirely to the KWF – this charity was chosen together with the students.

‘Baptized’ in the canal at Machinefabriek Boessenkool
The other closure is the launching of the “Tukkervlet” – directly opposite the business premises of Machinefabriek Boessenkool in the Almelo-De Haandrik canal. The “baptism” is expected to take place sometime in mid-May 2021. Machinefabriek Boessenkool is delighted with the project because it is another good example of the many collaborations that Machinefabriek Boessenkool and the Pius X College have maintained for generations. “Students desperately need practical experience, we desperately need young professionals,” said Director Ing. Eelco Osse from Machinefabriek Boessenkool. “We are happy to contribute to that”.
