What is boring?

Boring and large boring is a machining operation. With this technique, the workpiece stands still and the tool rotates. This machining technique is mainly used for repairing holes in metal products. If a round hole is damaged, worn or deformed, this hole can be brought back into the correct round shape using the boring technique. The boring tool is a chisel that rotates very quickly in the stationary workpiece. With the boring technique, the chisel points outwards, while with CNC turning, for example, the chisel points inwards.

CNC boring

Boring and large boring can be done by hand. But just like CNC turning, this machining operation can also be controlled by computer. This technique is also called CNC boring. The abbreviation CNC stands for 'Computer Numerical Control' and is used for computer-controlled machines. This method of boring offers more and more possibilities for this machining operation.

Different methods of boring

With CNC boring, the tool ensures that chips are removed from the metal, thereby giving the hole in the workpiece the desired shape. There are two different forms of boring, namely longitudinal boring and flat boring. You have also come to the right place for machining, and Boessenkool is also the party for large-scale boring!

With longitudinal boring, the tool rotates continuously in the same circular motion. In this way the tool extends the hole deeper and deeper. The diameter therefore remains the same during turning and the chisel only continues downwards slowly. Longitudinal boring creates an equal circle with the same diameter in the workpiece.

Flat boring

With face boring, the chisel rotates an increasingly larger circle in the workpiece while turning. The tool pushes further outwards from the center of the hole. In this way the diameter of the hole is increased during face boring. The chisel does not go deeper, but makes a rotating movement at the same height.

Knowledge is essential in both processes. The professionals at Machinefabriek Boessenkool can help you without any problems with all their knowledge and experience.

Flat boring after longitudinal boring

If a hole is worn, deformed or damaged, it is often possible to repair this imperfection by welding. However, welding never makes the hole perfectly round. Boring is a good solution to remove imperfections from the hole. Boring can make a hole perfectly round again. Both surface boring and longitudinal boring can be used. If the entire hole has been filled by welding, longitudinal boring is the best method of boring. If only the sides of the hole have been welded and repaired, face boring alone will probably suffice.

Knowledge is essential in both processes. The professionals at Machinefabriek Boessenkool can help you without any problems with all their knowledge and experience.

Top quality boring at Machinefabriek Boessenkool

At Machinefabriek Boessenkool we do CNC boring (with a computer) and with various high-quality boring machines and machines. The machining is carried out at Machinefabriek Boessenkool in an air-conditioned production hall. High-quality boring is carried out on, for example, couplings for gas extraction installations. The required accuracies and expansion scope for these types of projects are enormous. It is therefore not without reason that we only work with expert welders and the very best machines. Our employees are true professionals with the necessary knowledge and experience who are very skilled in various forms of machining. We only aim for the best results and nothing is left to chance. Whether it concerns CNC boring of ferrous or non-ferrous materials, such as plastics, Machinefabriek Boessenkool has you covered!

Knowledge is essential in both processes. The professionals at Machinefabriek Boessenkool can help you without any problems with all their knowledge and experience. At Boessenkool we are also specialized in large-scale boring, large-scale milling work, large-scale welding work and large-scale machining.
